We have become suspicious

and trained to expect the worst

by the many times we have been put down by our society.

We would like to be free of theseexpectation problems.

They are a Permanent  condition delivered upon us,

better known as  post traumatic stress disorder.

We may have survived the manyexperiences we have been subjected  to,

but we are not free as innocentchildren are free.

It is better to be on our   guard

than to risk being  taken by surprise.

But the writer thinks

there must be a way  we can re-gain our freedom from this disorderin some way.

Good luck, I say.

The question of whether we canachieve this freedom is within the context of a single life  time.

I think, that is too narrow aperspective.

Ah the bitter-sweet confection ofour human roles.

In overcoming so many rapid fire,

terrifying, unclear situations,

we may become self protectivelysuspicious.

A strategy needed, perhaps

if one is to negotiate

all the rutted roads and pitfalls

of the complex, often bewildering

business of daily living.

Such may exact the price as,

the herculean effort that must bemade

to allow one’s joy

to soar, unbridled with fullabandon.

Reflexive fear of the recoil which

can repeatedly cast us down

shattered, Broken in spirit

upon the stony unforgiving ground,

can become our default setting.

The horse that has too frequently

been trained to the whip,

understands this all too well.

Though at times she Has knownkindness

and a shared bond with a gentlerider,

she no longer expects it!

There must be a way

to break the chains

of this dark corrosive cycle.

But the disturbing question remains

can we find it

before our brief allotment Of time,

withers and is completely consumed?
