An Unexpected Flower 




 


Such a torrid day to sell my blossoms, 



waiting in the shade of my flower counter, 



in the center of a city fair, 



to hawk my very nearly wilting blooms. 




 


Beside me was a water pitcher



to help me through the thirsty day, 



when I saw a shriveled woman



gasping from the withering weather, 



dressed in a green and reddish dress, 



as though she was a fragile flower 



and gazing at my water beaker.




 


Then I turned to tend a patron. 



When I returned the lady was gone. 



But in my pitcher was a red plant,



quickly reviving from dehydration.



Befuddled and slightly bemused, 



I turned to a shopper’s purchase. 



When I refocused, the plant was gone 



and the green and red-dressed lady was back,



looking crisp, refreshed  and vivacious. 



Regarding my empty water glass she spoke,



“Thanks, I needed that!”
