At 96
by Joan Myles
He‘s outlived his wife
And all the friends
He collected in life
The potted tomato and roses he tends
Are food for deer
These days he depends
On one daughter
For errands pretends
To be mad at his son
For the stance he defends
And the stupid things done
Before his life ends
He’ll read every mystery
The bookmobile lends
But as for his history
His dead wife and friends
96 can’t make amends
