Joansub for June
This is the most cryptic poem so far that has crossed myeyes.
I’m not sure I can decipher any of its meaning.
But I’ll give it a try.
Still
This may be talking about those moments when the world within or without pauses
to take a measure of a person’s worth.
Assuming we have any.
by Joan Myles
theworld stands still sometimes
judgingmy worth
waterlooks back at me
reflectivein quiet clarity
Water is an aspect of the world.
It can be still and clear in its judgement.
It is not judgemental.
It looks back with clarity not often experienced
Whilemy handkerchief hesitates
toembrace my face
Maybe the handkerchief is in opposition to the clear water.
It is a hands on object.
Not objective.
You hesitate to embrace, accepte your face,
which is the visage you present to the world,
or the part of you which people see.
Are you real?
Do you have worth?
theworld waits to learn
whetherI welcome each wind
The core of the issue is whether you can acceptall the experiences you have.
Do you consider tsome of them good and some of them bad.
Or do you accept all of the ways the windsblow as a part of reality
and of equal value.
shuttlingfancy across the sky
whetherI dance with strutting
blackcrows between or into
thegenerosity of rain
Do you see rain as giving.
Or do you see tears as an essential part of life
and equally valuable.
theworld stands still
In thesanctuary listening
The world placidly in its sanctuary.
The sanctuary is where you go to take on thatnon judgemental evaluation of worth.
for therapture and humility
The rapture or humility isthe way you react to the world.
If you can take everything in with clarity.
If you can experience both rapture and humility equally,
than you have a measure of worth.
whichare my only proof
