This is a thoughtful presentation of aninteresting subject.
The subject is barely the tip of the icebergconcerning social media.
It would make a great accademic and socialdebate.
What we read and see at the movies does have avery significant power to mold society and its values.
I like the way it is presented in a subjective, rather than, didactic way.
Thoughts on Truthand Happy Endings
A rumination inPoetic Form
C By Brad Corallo
Word count 290
I find as I growolder,
that in books orpeoples life dramas
every now andthen, I crave a happy ending.
"They allfound what they always sought
and lived happilyever after
In other words, a fairy tale.
until the end oftheir days."
Sounds dated andcorny, right?
Actually, according to Kurt Vonnegutte, The happy ending is the mostpopular story, varying amongs the different patterns.
I have alwaysthought of my self as a realist-saying:
"peopleshould rub their noses in the truth
Don’t a lot of Russian authors follow thatphilosohy ? Do you think it has had apossitive efect on teir society?
however painfuland ugly it is,
because it is thetruth!"
But stories and truth are notthe same.
They may have differing goals.
I think thegoals should be clear.
That is, if the truth is the goal, then the goalof truth should be expressed.
This applies moststrongly to
truths that existbecause of us,
humans that is,
both individuallyand collectively.
You’re talking about historical and poloiticaltruth, mostly.
They are different.
"You did it,or we did it.
Own it damnit!"
Nice 2 lines.
Marcus Aureliussaid
"the truthwill set you free."
But in this lifeyou learn pretty quickly That
the truth isoften difficult to identify.
Alas, as we growolder
we eventuallyrealize
too many painful,ugly truths
are dispiritingand exhausting.
I think black and white thinking is what isexhausting.
The whole truth is usually a mixture of the goodand the bad.
This is of coursewhy
people go tomovies
and read books.
To identify withsomeone else's situation
and maybe dobetter than they
have done intheir own lives.
I am sure that movie goers and book readers havemore varied incentives than that.
I rememberdiscussing the book:
"The KiteRunner" and saying
"one of thereasons it was such a good book
is that it has anending like
many in reallife."
That is true!
Many of the bestand most memorable books
have suchendings.
But if we areprepared to be fully honest
the 21st centuryworld our species has created
abounds withpainful, ugly truths.
And in what epoch was this not true?
And frankly, theyare growing very tiresome!
Bilbo Baggins TheHobbit said
"oh no, thatwill never do,
books should havehappy endings!"
Perhaps he wasright,
At least, some ofthe time.
I love and agree with the add on qualifyer
