Critiques for 12-27-18 Group 2 session 

1. Val's piece:

In order to obtain increased spiritual awareness, one must go off into the
wilderness and dwell. Similar to the concept of the Native-American vision
quest. A line from a song by Julie Snow comes to mind: "The only way out, is
through." So perhaps for the poet, this life is the wilderness that she must
traverse to reach greater understanding and a far better place to dwell. 

2. Leonard's Piece:

A nostalgic tribute to a basic medium of heat providing a special warmth.
Wood burning stoves have been a source of comfort for humans for a long
time. The new and improved, soulless heating device is so like many new
things are: functional, usable but ultimately unsatisfying. It is key that
the stove remains in place for nostalgic remembrance. And while Leonard
gives up his comforting friend in the interest of environmental
preservation, billion dollar corporations fill the seas and sky with their
fowl effluences, without ever giving it a moments thought.  

3. Alice's Piece:

A well designed and poignant holiday acrostic. I remember in the Vietnam
War, the Christmas cease fire. I also remember thinking
At about age 12, if they could stop for 24 hours, why not forever? To this
day, I've never gotten an answer.


4. Abbie's Piece:

A compact descriptive relationship piece. Certainly, in the good
relationships that I have been fortunate enough to be part of, his
preference would have been mine as well.
