Again a picture is painted by  words.

I think this is the author,   but I can’t be sure.

She tells us that this is a pleasantmemory.

It is one of those times of days  when she can read, and lose herself in abook,

and do it with Corky.

The book is particularly  welcomed becauseit teaches her about kindness and overcoming hardship.

It  is the only time that she can call her own.

The young girl is shy, probably anintrovert.

so her alone time is cherished.

I notice that hoer language flows .

Sprinkled with aliteration and in linerhymes.

Unobtrusively  used so one hardly notices it.

READINGWITH CORKY

Bathedin memory’s golden glow,

Asixty-year-old image makes me smile:

Ashy, small girl carrying homemade cookies

Anda tattered copy of Beautiful Joe

Settleson the top step of a back porch.

DespiteOctober’s chill and the coming dusk,

Shesavors these hours between school and supper

Whenshe can claim this time and space as her own.

Pressingclose in hope of a cookie,

HerBoston terrier gets his wish.

MarshallSaunder’s much-loved novel

Of adog’s triumph over abuse

Hasmade her vow always

Tolove animals as much as books.

Asshrieks of neighborhood children

playingfootball fall away,

Shedraws Corky nearer

Andloses herself in printed words of kindness.
