[DECtalk] the archive is messed up

You are being very unfair to planetmirror.com. Their mirroring is
entirely automated. If it can't access a directory, it deletes
it. This is very logical and makes good sense. It is up to you, as
archive maintainer to keep track of permission problems. On the
other hand, they'll get everything again once permissions are fixed.

My suggestion is to download and read the rsync(1) man page. I
really, really like rsync. Most people will have a hard time using
it but it's good for mirroring. That would also avoid some of the
problems in the future. Just have planetmirror rsync from you daily
and eliminate all ftp access. What you want to do about the
copyrighted and adult material is up to you but I suggest make that
http only and not have planetmirror get it.
