1. Joan's piece:
Joan beautifully captures that sense of momentary pause, where all things
seem to take a well needed breath. In my own life I have felt this from time
to time. I love the following: "the world stands still
In the sanctuary listening." I think of it as a brief moment of crystalline
silence. It can enable a sort of personal reset. Terrific imagery!

2. Valerie's piece:
A number of very accurate observations about the phenomenon of gossip.
Gossip is a hugely powerful thing. Even folks, who say they don't like it or
participate in it, have their ears wide open when the subject around the
water cooler is who slept with whom. One of the most dangerous things about
gossip is that much of it is nothing more than rumor. The success of such
papers as the national Star and the Inquirer prove that people just for some
perverse reason, enjoy frequently reading nonfact- tested outrageous
nonsense. Love the use of the words "dank," "clamor" and "Speech pollution."

3. Alice's piece:
Well, questionable monuments seem to be all the rage these days. They
probably could have given several meals to all the homeless folks in the
city for what they spent on a meaningless monument. I believe most people
might say: "please don't celebrate homelessness with statues, please help us
find a way out of this nightmare!" A powerful piece! Not too sure about the
rhythm or syllable count of this line in relation to the one preceding it:
"Is she here and there too tempestuously tempted to steal?"

4. Leonard's piece:
A fascinatingly weird piece from Leonard. To be sure, it is filled with
patented Leonard dialogue but it definitely strikes a slightly bizarre
humorous note. Of course, perhaps he is serious. I mean, if he could conjure
septic gnomes, perhaps he is half gremlin. Actually the more I think about
it, the more it makes sense LOL! And though it is very well written, it kind
of just ends. One has to wonder if a sequel is on the way.
