1. Leonard's Piece:
A very well-told story with a fascinating subject. I have heard much about
ball lightning. It is frequently the explanation for UFO sightings. I truly
wish I had seen it when I had more vision. But not at all under the
circumstances which Leonard so aptly describes. There are many fascinating
natural phenomena that are so little understood. You may not agree, but
Leonard I count you among the fortunate few having observed this rare
wonder.
2. Alice's Piece:
An interesting vignette of family history. I can somewhat relate as my aunt
and uncle had a player piano that I would often commandeer on visits to
their home. The technology that underlies the functioning of the player
piano is astonishing and to my mind at least, ahead of its time. I believe
that early computers used punch cards very similar to the rolls for player
pianos. In his first novel (Player Piano), Kurt Vonnegut wrote about this
computer technology making the jobs many folks held, obsolete. I wonder what
happened to theirs? I am referring to my aunt's and uncle's instrument of
course.
3. Valarie's Piece:
As usual, in few words Val has captured my own painful need for winter's end
and spring's beginning. Perhaps it is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). For
me, spring has always been associated with an internal up surging feeling of
joy and renewal. Truly Val, I hope you feel the same!
4. Joan's Piece:
Perhaps Joan's most enigmatic poem yet. I note the line construction: 212111
and have no idea if such is significant. So only one of the clustering crows
seems to feel it has something to wait for. Is this a metaphor for a higher
purpose? I guess this is the best I can do.
