4-29-21 Group-2 Critiques

1. Joan's piece:

Wow, after 3reads, I am a bit stumped. It seems like the woman is the most
intact. Three people arrayed in cellophane overcoats would be able to hide
very little. The woman's love is deep within and she appreciates just being.
The old man, on the way to his death remembers and carries souvenirs. The
young man seems disconnected and essentially lost. None of these individuals
can ever connect due to dense desert rain. Perhaps they represent different
components of one personality that are unable to join through the process of
individuation as per Carl Jung.
I am probably lost in a rainy desert my self re this fascinating piece.

2. Valerie's piece:

So we have the "womanchild" with possibly irreconcilable parts and ways of
being in the world. Even seeking perfection will often be fruitless. She
would remake the world her way but this will not be successful as she can't
see beyond her own house of cards. This piece has several amazing lines:
"she stays locked in misintuition and pulsing calamity." And "I watch her
stride with bare need glaring--."
I can't help wondering if this isn't about someone that we know from BOE?
It is also not like many of Valerie's pieces as its meaning is not
immediately clear.

3. Alice's piece:

A nostalgic looking back. A fantasy of returning home to forever rest in an
imaginary gazebo which graces the family's beloved land. To eternally rest
in the fields and byways of youthful wonder and growth in an Indiana which
no longer exists in these present days.
A "going home poem" in the finest sense.

4. Leonard's piece:

An in depth illustration of how gardens are most often like tournament
grounds with different plants fighting for space and position. We wrongly
view gardens as calm and peaceful places without realizing the on going
competition between members of the plant kingdom. Is Leonard also using this
as a metaphor for our Earthly garden with different groups within the human
kingdom having different needs and doing battle for their own controlled
territories? I will guess not though it does fit. A superb choice for this
glorious spring season.
