Dear Group Two writer friends,
I wrote the following 220-word poem on March 4 and continued to revise
it through March 11, when I presented the poem at the first Readers'
Workshop.At the March 11 event, I did not include the final stanza.Do
you prefer this poem with or with out the marked "Final Stanza"?Also,
since the Readers' Workshop, I added some extra line breaks.This poem
was revised more than most of my poems.I look forward to our critique
session on March 21--the 29th anniversary of my receiving my first
Leader Dog.

*The Almost True Story of an Angel's Feather*
poem by Alice Jane-Marie Massa
You thought I found a feather
of a blue, bright-colored bird;
but what I found was evidence
of an angel's wing,
unheard--
unheard, yet I felt a flow of air
pirouette across my face.
Urged on by what,
I do not know;
but I fell down upon my knees
at that holy place.
With hands outstretched,
I searched blades of grass,
grasped the luminescent white feather.
As soon as I twirled
the perfect feather in my hand,
the delicate plume turned
turquoise--a brilliant blue.
Then, upon a west wind's gentle breeze,
I heard these words--so clear:
"Dear one, please know
Angels' wings are only white on mission flight;
while in that place
you call 'Heaven,'
the feathered wings are
of unknown, unimportant color.
However, on another planet,
the feather absorbs the color
of the finder's hope and prayer.
The plume is not
a piece of good luck,
but a reminder
to make this place
you call 'community'
a softer, lighter, safer
surrounding.
You must keep this feather
so that each day, as you work very hard with life,
you will be uplifted with laughter."
[Final Stanza]
These mysterious words left me
with gratitude, a gracious grin,
and a feather
pressed against a warmer, more humorous heart.
