Critiques for 11-29-18 Group 2 session

1. Leonard's piece:

A concise discussion of the great difficulties with discerning where we came
from not to mention where we are going. It is like if one goes back to visit
our elementary school. We are blown away by the smallness of bathroom
fixtures and the desks and chairs we used every day. Our remembrance of
history doesn't seem to be able to process certain factors. In the initial
discussion of vision, I especially like line 2.

2. Val's piece:

In this piece the normal anguish which can accompany disability adjustment
is presented in a way that doesn't sound like whining or pathos that one
clings to. It is not at all easy to be able to write about such in this
fashion. You get a picture of an individual who adjusts and achieves
wholeness as a person. The person in this poem is real and someone it would
be good to meet and speak with.

3. Abbie's piece:

A compact and concise capsulization of a period in the writer's past which
connects forward to an event in the present. Given the information we have,
I don't think it is possible to discern whether or not the old teacher
remembers.

4. Alice's piece:

This is a piece which requires one to determine how best to approach
critiquing it. Especially since we are provided with some interpretation in
the postscript. Consequently I choose to work with the three states of:
clockwork, crossroads and unentangling. One can see both the individual's
and humanity's struggles as they proceed from "clockwork" which I envision
as normal living, producing and achieving. Until one comes to the crossroads
where all is unclear or at risk and emotional doubt and turmoil are the
operative states of mind. One may be able to unentangle the knotty problem
with hope and by reviewing the past record (yearbook)of their life or lives.
