Valerie, this is powerful. I like the way you compare grief to an ocean and the idea that although you're grieving, there is a tomorrow.

Brad, it's not clear whether the being described is a human, animal, or spirit. Maybe you intended it that way, and some might like it, but it doesn't work for me.
