Subject: Leonard's comments on Sally's piece

Is thisyour brother?

It is areal tear jerker.

Verypowerful.

Does hiswife take him?

It is easyto relate to what he is feeling.

This piececaptures  the situation

capturesthe feelings of the moment extremely well,

as yourpieces so often do.

Yu tell itso simply and yet so effectively.

He remindsme of a friend I had.

Worn downby decades of cardiac illness

and drainedby an unknown infection

that willsend him back to intensive care

before thisfrigid, bleak day ends,

the manasks his wife of fifty years

to drivethem to the river that,

inwarmer seasons, flows by their town.

Frozen withno imminent thaw,

theSusquehanna, dreary now, reminds him

of bettertimes when he fished for trout,

chuggedbeer, and played cards in buddies’ cottages.

Come Spring, trout will jumpagain.

The clinkof bottles and the laughter of friends

will ringout on Summer evenings.

Is mybrother’s wish to visit the river off-season

a momentaryanswer to cabin fever

or one lastlook, dreaming

of timesthat will not come again?
