Hi, everyone, Yes, I plan to be on the call on Thursday with comments on
your submissions. I will not be submitting anything this month. My husband
had a massive brainstem stroke which flooded the rest of his brain on May
12; he was declared clinically dead the following day. Ironically, Sandy's
death had nothing to do with polio or post-polio syndrome. It was caused by
an aneurysm. Except for a very brief moment of pain, he never knew what
happened and never regained consciousness. In many ways, this was a
blessing. Over the last few years, he had lost the use of most of his body,
was in an incredible amount of pain despite narcotics, had begun having
memory and cognitive problems, and was severely depressed. Our internist
told me that, had he lived, he would have suffocated slowly from
complications of polio - not an easy passing. I am also glad it happened
when we were home rather than when he was driving. Leonard, thank you so
much for the email and phone call; they were so appreciated and comforting.
