Lots of muddy water…
I found articles recommending putting thoughts in quotes like regular dialogue, or in italics (which audible readers won’t see); also others advocate for neither quotes or italics but use tags like he wondered or he thought, or even without quotation marks or tags if it is clear who is doing the thinking within the context of the story.
One main point, regardless of the style you choose, be consistent!
