Hi Group 1 fellows,
I must apologize for my lateness, but our subs were due yesterday. I’ve
included my own submission below. Please get yours in by yesterday. We meet
next Wednesday at 7:30 pm Eastern Standard Time.
Mary Jo will not be able to attend or to submit. I have not heard from
Kevin. If anyone has a suggestion as to who might be a good new member, please
let me know.

The Parachute Jump
by
Leonard Tuchyner
I’m back in Coney Island,
broad wooden planks high above shadowed sand,
worn and warmed beneath my shoeless soles,
echo drumbeats of a million feet,
as Ocean rumbles its ceaseless breath.
Before my eyes parachutes rise
higher and higher, into shrouding clouds,
souls lashed to precarious seatss,
our lungs repressed hold our breaths,
umbilicaled to a silken shroud,
concealing tenuous tomorrows.
Bound and harnessed, we can only look down.
What’s past falls away too slow -- too fast.
Motion ceases. Time sunders,
enfolded by an in-between.
Only sounds of Ocean’s rumbling,
as I hang from its silver thread.
Cracking, jarring movement reborn --
feelings of something fearful breaching --
falling, falling screaming, clinging
to a flailing protective placenta.
Earth rushes up to reclaim us.
I feel a violent jerking slap,
and hear an indignant cry.
To my mortified surprise,
that sudden wailing sound is mine.
The boardwalk thrums beneath my feet.
Summer sun embraces me.
A sweet sea breeze caresses me.
All around, the ocean sound sings knowingly.
