Actually don,
I have done that very thing.
when I worked for Xerox, part of my task was to sit down with individuals
experiencing sight loss for the first time, and help them regain some
personal power.
How that was defined, varied from individual to individual, as anyone
realizing they cannot speak for others would expect.
I do not consider myself to be representative of an entire community.
speaking personally, I do not consider there to be a community at all.
save for those in the human family uniquely managing their bodies, needs
and experiences. the more choices, and the less stereotyping i. e. blind
community as if there is a series of connected uniformed factors, the
better.
what I personally found, I use the word personally because I am well aware
I can *only speak for myself*, is that if asked what they desire to
accomplish, if respected in that desire, and if shown tools toward that
goal, quite allot of magic happens.
None of that involves speaking of a blind population, or of what other
people sharing a label do, outside of providing choices.
Some can, and do wish to invest in those choices, some humans can and do
seek a free option...there is no such thing as most people here, speaking
personally.
As stated my need for dectalk is tied to an additional
physical experience. still, I *personally* believe that insuring choices are on
the table, instead of leading from a limited dictionary, "do you see for
them? as you asked below, leads to greater progress.
As of yesterday there are more than 8 billion humans on the planet. I do
not need, cannot in fact see for another, or occupy their body, or
their lives...and neither can you.
fortifying my personal stance that a community based on an assumption that there is
only two sides to a coin, blind / sighted, does not exist.
What I can respect is the all too human desire to be heard about personal
affairs, what one prefers, how one wishes to spend their money, what
brings them enjoyment where life and technology are concerned.
sorry you feel the need to project your personal choices onto others, you
reach for free options, which is fine for you.
I, and others it seems, prefer to invest when possible for the quality
they desire, which is fine for us.
Honestly, I have no idea why you are so adversarial about something for
which there is no wrong answer, or right one for that matter.
And, to be forthright, I did not even read most of your reply, the repair
jobs seeming so off point that I could not imagine anything else was worth
plowing through...my choice of course.
Feel free to do the same where my remarks are concerned.
