Dead Fish Fight Back




 


We spent a weekend with my wife’s parents



at their home in Colonial Beach,



located on the Potomac River shores 



There, I cast a line off their private sea wall,



where I often caught a bundle of fish, 



as was the case this bountiful weekend. 



Prior to returning to our abode, 



I scoured and dressed my catch of the day. 



That’s when I discerned my hands were burning –



The same hands which gutted my hapless prey.



The sensation increased to misery, 



until we reached home, where it abated. 



I never knew fish could retaliate 



in death, for the sins of their murderers.
