Pieces are due today. Below is my contribution.

Winter Reaps the Gifts of Summer

 

In summer’s season we wax flamboyant.

Our sparkling Sun always shines afresh.

Crops grow with scarcities of water.

We overwhelm obstacles with gritty will,

though scorching summer winds still blow

and gnawing famine grinds with fires and droughts. 

Climate change is predominant,

but we remain unchanged by the weather. 

Our sweat and guts will stay undaunted. 

 

Oh, what hubris we humans have. 

After summer comes the winter. 

Scars we gleaned begin to take their toll.

Perhaps our madness has brought us wisdom. 

Like ripened fruit ready for reaping,

mayhap our wisdom is ripe for picking.

 

With our last gasp of fading purpose, 

we attempt to propagate our knowledge

on an unsuspecting innocent world,

unready to accept summer’s wisdom.
