At thewindow of my writer’s garret,



I twirl andtoss outside



handfuls ofpoetry confetti.



What doeshandfuls of poetic confetti mean? 



It couldmean you’ve done your turn in producing poetry. 



And, thusdoing, have enhanced the world.  



Or it couldmean that you question the value of the poetry 



to chop itinto little pieces  and distribute it asso much showy chaff.  



I’m notsure . 



Do you meanthat you are advertising that here is where the poetry  is. 



Theconfetti is a celebration.  



You’ve  cooked up your share of poetry in every form 



to bedigested and enjoyed at your table. 



But now itis other poet’s turn to provide the feast. 



This pieceis full of metaphore, 



and I’m notsure how to understand it. 



One of theissues is the word garret, 



which thelady describes as  a small,wretchedattic. 




 


Can youfeel it in the air?

In mycrafty kitchen,



I prepared spaghettia la poetry.



So,welcome, welcome. Please have a chair.



 



We willpass the relish tray of rhyme;



or try acourse of free verse, if you prefer.



Our toastwill be with wine



from onlythe finest poetry vines.



 



Now thatthe poetry table is set



and so manypoets have thankfully gathered ‘round,



the poeticdinner bell rings



to let meknow the time has come



for me tosit back, enjoy, and learn



because, mypoet friends,



the nextpresentation is your turn.
