SandDune  Marchers

 On ahigh windswept sand dune

fiftystrides from seaside lapping,

asemi-stable  hammock

nestled ina nest of rises,

adornedwith a grass new to me.

Five-footsolitary tall grasses,

graceful  droopingleaves stretch two more feet

on gentlysloping supporting stalks,

withbowed,  colored, singular tresses,

almostparallel to their sandy  ground.

Eachtasseled stalk faces the same way.

Where dothey get their marching orders?

>From steadywinds which often blow,

or simply away to catch the light?

Likepilgrims on an aimless  quest,

frozen intime, they never progress.

Like humansmoving toward their destiny.

Will theyperish before they arrive?

Will theycome again to suit the season,

continuingtheir solemn  journey?
