Hi Group 2,

Thursday our submissions are due. Below is mine.

 Waiting for the Snow

Yesterday was cold and bright.

On bare-limbed trees, Sol shed his light

that cast their stark, sharp shadows

across arbored country roads.

Puppy and I trekked ‘round the lake,

his spirits flying with the whining wind,

while I crunched down in my hooded coat,

stoking my interior fires.

Today the sky is overcast,

holding the seeds of snow to come.

Air leaks chill beneath my winter wear,

as my frisky dog pulls me along,

sniffing and prancing on his way,

buoyed by his undaunted zeal.

In the summertime of my life

I looked forward to winters snows,

tramping blithely through its knee-deep white,

flinging myself down snow-cushioned hills,

recklessly throwing white missiles

at anyone and anything,

without a care of reprisal.

Youth is made for flinging and falling

into a future too bright to see.

Now, in my subdued winter years,

I long for the midsummer’s dream,

where bruises brought reason for laughter.

Slipping on ice is no longer nice.

Yet now, I can soak up the quiet

with a peace I never had before,

while listening to the white, hissing noise,

as snow blankets my somnolent world --

the mysterious sacred silence

of new life waiting to be born.
