[Critique Group 2] Emailing: Vercingetorix---For 8-29-19 critique session

Hey There Group 2,

This piece was posted to the list in "National Poetry Month" when it was
written. I have decided to use it here as I am less happy with my most
recent writing efforts. Plus, I doubt anyone else will be submitting work
about the  protagonist of this piece.

Vercingetorix

"Gaul united, Forming a single nation 
animated by a common spirit, 
can defy the Universe." 

So the people of Gergovia sing
of Vercingetorix, their warrior king!

Where his father failed he united Gaul
for all the tribesman heard his call.

They brashly challenged Roman might
putting countless centurions to shameless flight. 

He dreamed an end to Roman power
battling Caesar to win the hour.

And several times he won the day
with scorched Earth and prowess the legends say.

But in the end wily Caesar did prevail. 
For when all is said, the king did fail.

He was executed in 46 BCE,
held in chains, no longer free!

But across the ages, his name is known
for in Auvergne France, tiz still intoned. 

NOTE: Quoted lines taken from an inscription on the base of a commemorative
statue commissioned by Napoleon III in 1865near what was formally Alesia.
Alesia was the site of the final battle when Vercingetorix was force to
yield to Julius Caesar in 52 BCE. I first heard his name in sixth grade when
we were studying the history of Greek and Roman civilization. We saw a movie
where his exploits were dramatized. For some reason, I never forgot!
