This is what you might call an epistle or letter poem.

MY DEAREST LATE HUSBAND

It’s been almost four years.
I hope you’re watching from above.
If you are, you already know
I haven’t found anyone new.
Content being on my own,
I don’t know if I will.

I still haven’t gone through your stuff.
Your suitcase from the nursing home
stands in the closet, still packed.
Your computer died the day you did
like the old man’s grandfather clock in the song.
 I haven’t touched it
or any of your other equipment.
Your CDs, records, videos gather dust
in the nook off the kitchen that was yours for years.

You already know
I’ve published two more books since you left.
Remember saying “my wife, the published author,”
as you held my first book in your hand,
the shit-eating grin you wore.
Now you and I both smile
from the front cover of my latest,
a memoir about us.

I still wish you were here,
long to tell you things,
email you my latest poem or story,
crawl into your lap, feel your body’s warmth,
the safety of your loving arms.
I believe I’ll spend
the rest of my life loving you.
