Past our prime

would say that eyes can be deceiving.

These two elderly  ssoul mates comfort each other

as time moves on to inevitable darkness.

This piece solicits  many different  emotions.

It is a bitter sweet  image.

In their contemplation do they dream ofyounger days.

Are they content as the years slip away?

It is a mixed bag.

It is life.

Sally’ sub for Jan 23

Two females past our prime,

at least in the eyes of the world,

my cat and I share this space

and this hour before darkness falls.

At day’s end, when the sky turns indigo,

we sit in companionable silence.

Idly stroking her soft black coat,

I reflect on the oddity of time

in old age as days trundle  along

while years take flight of their own accord,

leaving elderly women and cats to wait

day after day until darkness comes.
