What to Do 

 

This conundrum distressed me ceaselessly.

For it seemed, in my enfeeble mind, 

that the quandary was insoluble. 

I wrestled with it day and evil night. 

My thought to court my young paramour 

was ardently opposed by my parents --

a position maintained by ancient lore. 

Could I stand up and resist tradition,

and suffer the loss of my revered clan?

 

While filing at my college library,

I confided with a co- sorter 

the nature of my dreadful dilemma. 

He peered at me in consternation.

“What is it truly that you want to do?”

He spoke these words in stark disbelief, 

as though there was no problem at all. 

The question hit me like a ton of lights, 

and I realized the simple answer. 

Woo and let the devil take the high note.
