Spring

By DeAnna Quietwater Noriega

Golden sunbeams kiss my face,

A chilly breeze ruffles my hair.

At the southern edge of the deck,

An old tree lifts twisted branches,

Too early for leaves to bud.

Not yet time for pink promises,

Of tart cherries to bake in pies,

If the squirrels and birds leave any.

Branches are alive with rowdy fruit,

A flock of first flyers come north!

Exchange news of winter holidays,

Choosing partners for nest building.
