DeAnna sub for Nov 22

A beautiful  poem of commendation  for all the peoples of the Americas,

starting back from those who arrivedon the land  bridge

to those who arrived here inevery  possible way.

All came in hopes of a betterlife.

In order to do this we must  first recognize our common humanity and standtogether.

This is probably the most inclusivemeaning of Thanksgiving  I’ve ever  heard.

A Gathering Place of Hopes and Dreams

By DeAnna Quietwater Noriega

We stand here together as the heartof a nation,

Whose people have come from many farplaces,

The first to come arrived on footover a land bridge,

They came seeking a brighter futurefor their children,

How could it not be so?

This land is a gathering place ofmany hearts,

Our past can be read on our skinsand faces,

It shapes our beliefs and colors ourattitudes,

We must learn to accept andunderstand one another,

How could it not be so?

We have struggled to bring justiceand freedom

Not just for some, but all of our people.

We have reached-out during times oftrouble

After vicious attacks, storms, firesand earthquakes.

How could it not be so?

We are a nation of immigrants andseekers,

We must acknowledge our sharedhumanity,

And open our minds and hearts to oneanother,

For we are the children of THISearth under one sky,

How could it not be so?
