[Critique Group 1] reminder of pieces due and Leonard's piece

Reminder that pieces are due today. Below ismy piece.

Oguchi’s Disease




 


At seventeen I needed glasses.



My eyes functioned well in daylight,  



at night they were not quite right.



But that was not really blind. 



The doctors said my eyes were fine,



but something was wrong. It didn’t seem right.  




 


However, Dr. Caballero 



diagnosed Oguchi’s disease, 



a dawdling loss of side-sight. 



He said I would never go blind.



With hindsight, he might know better now.




 


I could no longer read the blackboard 



And barely discern simple road signs.



I was glad not to wear glasses,



as they didn’t aid any more.




 


Even though friends wouldn’t have me drive,



I never believed I was sightless.



These times there’s no question I am blind. 



This syndrome wasn’t supposed to make me so, 



but is doing a pretty good job of it.



At 80, few of us have lived long enough  



to see the ultimate end of this scourge. 




 


Each challenge has had an adaptation,



from car, to moped, to bicycle, 



now slowly transforms to cane and dog.



I can’t wait to meet my new companion.
