Accidents Caused by Low Vision

 

One day in Dallas, far away from home,

I failed to use the usual door.

Rather I walked through the clear window --

stitches and lots of clotty, bloody clothes.

 

At a critical hotel conference, 

thinking I’d imbibe in a drink of milk. 

It was set right there on the group table.

I didn’t mean to drink the coffee cream. 

 

One dark night driving back to college, 

reaching the end of a country road,

failing to perceive the demure stop sign, 

ran across a T-intersection.

A narrow dirt road on the other side 

saved my life. No other place to go.

Car and half-blind driver were unhurt

 

One bright night riding my motorcycle 

on my way to a promising girlfriend, 

I chanced upon two twinkling red lights 

on either side of the narrow roadway. 

Blithely riding through the ample breach,

discover ed it was a barrier 

to stop traffic running into danger. 

Barrier, motor cycle all splinters. 

And on, and on and so forth and so on.
