                                RUNNING FREE

 

A not uncommon practice,

Two souls amble along the water's edge,

Leaving prints in cool wet sand

And relishing the time before them.

 

Warmed, not burned, by a rising sun,

These old friends enjoy the peace

Found in one another's company

As seagulls shriek and dive.

 

Arching driftwood into salty air,

The man laughs as his dog takes chase.

Unencumbered by wheelchairs and service dog vests,

They race along eternity's shore.
