This is a unique poem about despair andhope.

The writers abilityh to write isparralized  by  all the depressing things that are going onin her life.

But not so parralized as not torecognize  the ellements embedded  in the surrounding dreariness as the verythings that will be the subjects of her renewed writing.

The title is very good because it sets a hopeful note at the very beginning.

The poem comes back to that theme ofwaiting at he end  when it  exresses conviction of the return of Spring.

The author finds assurance in some thingsin her life  that her creative voice isjust waiting for in order to be awakened.

The poem is inspirational  and realistic.

It offers hope for everyone going throughexceptionally disheartening times.

WAITING

Fragmentsof poems lie

Sleepinginside me,

Notready to face the light of day.

Toomany losses and hardships,

Oneafter another,

Frozethem in mid-verse.

Exceptional line.

Awinter of bone-chilling cold,

Illnessand family deaths,

Myhusband’s deepening depression –

Theseare poetry’s fodder,

Butjust not now.

Wordsthat could turn life’s dross

Intoexpressive shimmering gold

Eludeme in this dry season.

Sippingmy morning coffee while

Strokingmy dog’s soft ears,

Ifind hope in the songs

Of chirpingbirds outside my window

Andbelieve that words, like Spring,

Will, despite a barren Winter, come once more.
