She Was His Angel

Angel Harvey Died Saturday. Ill for quite some time, her death did not come as a surprise. For those not familiar with her name, Angel, (whose given name was Lynne Cooper ) was the wife of news commentator Paul Harvey and the love of his life.

In a time when marriages crash and burn as often as we change socks, the Harvey’s had one most can only dream about. Rarely a day passed without at least one mention of Angel during Paul’s daily commentaries. He spoke of her involvement in charitable work, their home in Arizona, and the pride they shared in son Paul’s accomplishments in music. 

While romantic music played, they shared candlelight dinners and the joy of being together at the end of the day.  

As I thought about the example of fidelity, faithfulness, and love so much a part of their marriage, I couldn’t help imagining what it might have been like to spend     just one of those evenings with them.  How lovely it would have been to sit with them sharing music and conversation while enjoying the light of their love. The meal would have been elegant, the room cozy. Candles and gleaming crystal would add beauty to the scene. Beautiful flowers would emit lovely fragrances exciting our senses as we dined. Intelligent conversation would flow between us bright as the candles in the center of the table.

Angel is gone.  How will   Paul go on without his Angel?  Then I remember                                                                                                                   the glow of her face in the candlelight and know  that would be the source of his comfort and consolation.

In my fantasy, I will takeout and cherish that  dinner in my imagination.   Paul shared his life and his love with us and made his Angel a part of our world too. In the silence, I can almost hear her voice. Thank you Paul for sharing your treasure with us. Godspeed, Angel. You will remain with us always.
