Hi Keith,

Welcome to the Dectalk list! I think the audio file which you
shared was creative, especially the fight sounds generated by
DECtalk. Is Perfect Paul's claim in your audio file that the Speak
windows won't work on Windows 11 a true statement? I am currently
running Windows 10 on a computer which is not compatible with
Windows 11.

I’ve recently just started getting back
into programming with the DECtalk synthesizer, so thought I’d
see who’s actually on this thing. I got to the sign-up link
from The Flame Of Hope website, so thought I’d subscribe and
see who is actually around on here.

At the moment, my programming knowledge as
far as DECtalk programming is concerned, is actually rather
minimal. However, I certainly do enjoy DECtalk, although there
was a period of time where I totally forgot about the
technology.

My earliest memory of a DECtalk, although
at the time I was too young to know what it was called, was a
computer running JAWS for Dos, and it was hooked up to a
DECtalk Express. I seem to recall that the synthesizer could
sing back then.

I only found out that it was called the
DECtalk Express one day when I got curious and actually shut
the synthesizer off, then turned it back on.

I even quite a number of years ago now,
submitted a file to the DECtalk Archive, called Access 32
destruction, though I never put myself out their as an artist
at the time.

I have certainly been inspired and
attracted to DECtalk programming in general, in no small part
because of folks such as Patrick Perdue, Rachel Keyte, Snoopi
Botten, and even by the programming of folks who’s names I
just can’t recall at the moment.

I started getting back into DECtalk a few
years back in general, when I discovered that someone had
invented an add-on so that the Access32 voices could be used
with NVDA. Although, that DECtalk doesn’t respond to commands.
So, I actually ended up grabbing a speak window application
version not so long ago, and I’ve been creating a few things
recently.

One thing that I’d be really interested in
doing is learning how to make a convincing fight with the
DECtalk voices.

At the moment, my latest attempt for a
fight with DECtalk is actually, well, quite horrible.

At the time of it’s construction earlier
this year, , I was using the NVDA DECtalk add-on, and I was
simply doing audio production edits to my fight material,
admittedly to create an mp3 audio out of this thing. I hadn’t
yet remembered about the Speak window programs or anything
like that.

I might end up creating a new fight file
once I have something that is far more convincing as far as
Paul and Harry hitting each other, and making fight noises or
something like it.

I also don’t currently have any body hit
sound effects on hand, so I’m sure that would also be more
convincing, but what I’m super interested in is how in the
world to create something so that the listener actually thinks
that Paul and Harry are really going at it.

Here is an audio file version of what I
stitched together using the DECtalk add-on for NVDA at the
time, and my audio production skills. I don’t think I actually
saved the actual text though, so a new file would ultimately
have to be constructed.

I tried to make fight noises with what I
had at the time, and I don’t feel that this is convincing at
all. But, here it is.

Any suggestions come to mind from anyone
who is more experienced with DECtalk programming on how to
make a more convincing fight than what I came up with at the
time? Even the noises I made for Paul and Harry being in pain
were rather cringe worthy, admittedly, but well, at the time
that I did this earlier this year, I had totally forgotten
about the Speak window program. And I am only just now,
starting to get back into these fun parameters.

Enjoy my fight attempt, as bad as I feel
that was. I’m sure someone around here could come up with far
more convincing fight noises pretty easily.
