[DECtalk] reading edge with dectalk 1992

Kutztown university had a reading edge in their library over 20 years ago. I
remember using it there. It was quite slow to scan and read text. But I was
in college in the early to mid 2000s and the reading edge was from back in
1992.

I never used a Reading Edge. However, this subject brings back my first
memory of hearing DECTalk speak.


In elementary school, I and other blind students went to the house of a 
gentleman who had a Kurzweil reading machine with DECTalk in it. I don't 
remember much about that experience several decades later except being 
amazed by how realistic the DECTalk voice sounded. I think the gentleman 
was using Perfect Paul or Beautiful Betty. When I first used a DECTalk 
4.3 speak window early in the 21st century, my first thought was: "This 
is the voice I heard on that guy's Kurzweil reading machine when I was 
in elementary school."


It has been fun for me to share tonight with everyone on-list about my 
TTS memories.
