And, as I suspect it doesn't say this when those settings "drop",
that suggests it isn't a full power-on reset that is happening
(if the device CRASHED completely, one might expect such a reset).

So, something is causing a "soft" reset, effectively.

It is still unlikely that this is being done deliberately as
SpeakUp would undoubtedly know that it was doing it and would
take steps to reestablish its initial default settings.

But, hopefully, you can tell the support team what you are
seeing in better detail and maybe get them looking in a
specific direction for possible causes.

[Note that the screen reader may also be sending commands to
SpeakUp so may be complicit in this problem]
