[DECtalk] Some questions about DECtalk Express

Thanks.

I’ve downloaded Terraterm, but what do I do next?

I guess I’ll have to open it with commandprompt, but what commands do I have to enter to send a specified text file to the DTExpress, through the COM41 port?

You could just feed the files through a terminal program like Putty or terraterm (both are free). The reason NVDA doesn’t work is it does its own processing of punctuation, so some of the characters you enter get changed.

Thank you for the information. I've now found a compatible cable on a Danish webshop, so that problem is solved.

So, do anyone know the answer to my other question?

I was told on a forum, that there was a commandline program on the installation disc, that I could use to send text files to the DECtalk Express,

and sence I didn’t have the installation disc, I downloaded the dtxv42cd.exe, which I guess is the installation disc. So, do I have to install the drivers

on a Windows 9x, or DOS, virtual machine for the text program to work, or is it just a program, that I can open from my Windows 7 machine? I also tried to send it through NVDA, by using the Decctalk Express add-on for NVDA, but it didn't work quite well. It could process the commands for changing voices just fine, but when I enter some singing commands, it just reads it.

Best regards:

Power jack takes a 2.1mm/5.5mm plug, center positive. The unit requires

12V, at least 400mA, *regulated* ... These are pretty commonly

available, they are often used for LED strip lights. Just make sure the

polarity is correct.

If you hook up a power supply with reversed polarity or too-high

voltage, an internal fuse in the DECtalk Express will blow. The fuse is

a surface-mount fuse near the power jack, digikey part F1165CT-ND , any

electronic technician can test and/or replace it.

I think later builds changed this fuse to a self-resetting protector.

The unit will work fine on external power even with a dead battery.

...tom
