I like the Dectalk 4.3/USB comparison. I'm especially impressed by the USB's
ability to sing. Wow! To me, the uSB sounds like Dectalk 4.64 and is
understandable. Great teamwork, Alex and Brandon! Oh, and Alex, your song is
great.

Hi all,

I recently created a TXT file of DECTAlk stuff and sent it to Brandon
off-list and got another DECTalk USB demo made (thanks so much Brandon!).
This one has a custom Paul voice I use all the time in DECTalk 4.3, involves
a little song about the DECTalk USB I wrote, and gives some info taken from
the Access Solutions Website about the product. It's a bit long, but I
wanted to see how the custom Paul voice read text with the DECTalk USB. I
think it's pretty good!
The recording is with a microphone but is a bit clearer and closer, so you
can really get an idea of how it sounds from the speaker.

The DECtalk USB is a compliant full speed USB device that starts and stops
quickly and can meet the demands of any screen access program.
The DECtalk USB is a fully programmable device that may receive firmware
updates while in the field.

As an added bonus, the DECtalk USB comes equipped with a standard serial
port. If the synthesizer is operated solely on the serial port, the unit can
be powered via a supplied DC adapter or by connecting the unit to a computer
via the supplied USB cable.

The DECtalk USB has 9 predefined voices, 140 volume levels, 75-650 words per
minute, numerous unique pitches, and is fully configurable to meet your
listening needs. In addition, parameters such as tone, punctuation
filtering, and intonation are also adjustable. It is important to note that
these settings may be limited by certain software packages such as screen
access programs.
System Requirements:
The DECtalk USB is designed to operate with an IBM or compatible micro
computer with a USB or standard RS232 serial port. If you are not sure if
your computer is equipped with a USB or RS232 port, we recommend contacting
your computer vendor or refer to your computers' user manual.

Currently the DECtalk USB functions with Windows 98/ME/2K/XP
Home/Pro/Vista/Windows 7 using the USB port. The DECtalk USB functions with
DOS/DOS boxes/Linux/Windows 3x/9X/ME/NT4/2K/XP Home/Pro using the
RS232 port.
Audio Output:
The DECtalk USB is equipped with an internal 2.5 inch 0.5 watt speaker for
delivering its excellent synthesized speech output. Volume levels are
adjustable via a side mount rotary thumb wheel. In addition, an eighth inch
stereo jack is located on the side of the unit for use with headphones. The
DECtalk USB weighs 9 ounces and is 5.5x3.6x1.1 inches in size.
