[DECtalk] My thoughts on the archive

Hello,
I'll try to keep this short and sweet. Frankly, I'm tired of all the
bitching and complaining people have been doing lately. I fully understand
that these complaints aren't aimed at me or my server as used for hosting
the archive, but that's just not the stuff this list was intended to handle.
Now. I am perfectly willing to take over the archive, on a primary basis.
All that would have to be done immediately, at this moment, for me to be the
primary archive maintainer, is for me to write a new Readme file. At some
point I could implement a file upload mechanism, assuming I could find one
that is secure against people downloading from the upload area, and people
deleting uploaded files. For now, my thought on Red Dwarf is to go ahead
and host the files here, if I do end up taking over the archive, and to give
those who upload the texts and MP3 files to the archive an FTP account with
a username and password known only to them, and to have a script run hourly
or daily to automatically move files they upload into the Red Dwarf
directory, thus needing no action on my part to make them available. If I
do take over the archive, you are such a person, and you are interested in
such an arangement or have a better idea, write me either on the list or
privately and we can talk.
Jayson.
