I'm glad you're tired of my complaints, really i am. So therefore I'm gonna
do it some more. why? because I can.
I have 512 k up here, but there's some quite big files on the site, and
assuming you did mirror it, which you won't because you're too lazy
obviously, have 5 or 7 people downloading at any one time and you'll soon
see. Browsing will become not fun, but a chaw. this is fine. Jason, feel
free to be the primary site, but soon as i take down this site, you see how
many people don't find you for months on end. you google for dectalk in
google and you'l see my domain.
You ask 98 percent of people on the web what's the dectalk archive address
they'll tell you my domain. so lol feel free. Ya know what? Definitely
feel free. people will complain though soon as i take it down. last year I
went on dialup as i was moving house. i got over 50 emails from sad people
asking why the site wasn't up, and as i wasn't able to check mail at the
time and was still running this site from home, well you get the idea.
whether you, Tony Baechler donate or not, that shouldn't stop the rest of
you from being so very short sited about this, and the main reason why i'm
still running it is quite simply because if I don't, there will be no
archive. People don't want slow speeds when downloading. when i ran it
from home, people's main complaints were that the max speed they would get
would be 30 k, as i had 256 k up at the time. Even if you have 768 up like
some U.S providers offer, and obviously some do higher such as optonline
with 1 meg etc, it's still not fast enough for today's spoiled broadband
users, so if you all want to put up with the petty bitching, the shit I'm
putting up with and have done ever since 2002, feel free.
prime example is the mail sent by this Tony Baechler whoever you maybe,
today. You're tired of hearing about my complaints? Mine? You think this
is complaining? you don't wanna get me started, you really don't. If this
is complaining then my god, I dread to think what sort of complaints you
people get when this archive is no longer there. that's OK though,
obsessive as you all are, you can all do round-robbin DNS and mirror the
damn site yourself.
As for you Tony Baechler, i'm sure you're too stingy and pathetic to give
even a dollar a month. if 50 of you were to do that, then it adds up. It's
not like I'm setting a fee for donations, is it? Nope. i'm really not.
it's just sad, and it really shows the kind of people you are. blind people
want everything they get for free. software, things for download be it
music or otherwise, files of this nature, but oh boy, ask you to stick your
hand in your pocket and take some initiative about something you supposedly?
care about and oops? you go running like dogs after a bone. Sad tossers,
the majority of yas, and it's really, really laimb. This is to be expected
though.
I know others of you on this list, and i respect you because you have
written me in private and support my standing on this issue in other ways,
but those people that love to leach off of my site, and some of you that
can't be bothered to download what you like, so you stream it and stream it
over and over again, either because you don't have the hard-drive space or
because you just don't feel like it, and for those of you who have this site
as your home-page so every time you load IE that's where you end up? I feel
incredibly sorry for you. why? simply because when this site is moved, if
i ever decide to move it, and if someone other than Tony Baechler takes it
up, and it runs on a home connection that could go up or down any time, and
you get shitty download speds? I don't wanna hear not one single bitching
one of you come to me and say, hey, you told us so, you told us things would
be bad, but not this bad, can you host the damn site again? Please?
Kiss my fuckin backside!
When Jason realises that he's getting hit after hit to the same site every
day and so he goes for a server solution on high bandwidth, and then he
starts asking for donations, and this Tony Baechler dude decides he won't
donate again, where will you all be? yes, you've guessed it, square 0. Not
1, because I'm 1, but 0, that means jason pays out of his own pocket all the
time, and you're either left with a site that he will no longer want to
manage because of fuckers like Tony Baechler who don't even probably know
the first thing about running servers of any kind and thus don't know the
kind of maintenance involved, or else it just won't exist because he won't
be able to afford it's upkeep. so, i put it to you.
you choose. you choose how this thing goes from here on out. I'll show you
the kinds of crap that happen when a site doesn't exist if you keep up this
pointless, I won't put my money where my mouth is campeign, and then we'll
see.

PS. having dectalk site as your home-page is incredibly sad.

| Hello Nick. Well, you've got to be kidding, right? You can now get very
| cheap servers with no bandwidth limits for very little. You can get a
| cable business account or DSL. We pay $89 per month for a cable business
| account. Also, I know from someone else in the UK that they have a
similar
| arrangement with broadband accounts. I am not saying that $89 per month
is
| cheap because it isn't, but you can easily run email and a few fairly
| active sites without a bandwidth drain. I know because that's what we are
| doing. We get 512 KBPS, which is about 51 k per second download speed. I
| am not offering to mirror the site because of legal concerns, but I think
| that asking for a donation is not reasonable.
|
| I've stated my opinion before and will do so again. Since Andre has no
| interest in DEC-Talk and Jayson has already been willing to be the primary
| archive site, I think Andre should just close the site and let Jayson take
| over. I actually have something to upload but I am not going to because
| I'm frankly tired of Nick's and Andre's complaints. With the price of
| domains being so cheap now, someone could buy dec-talk.org, have Jayson
| take over hosting, and that would be better for all. If people want to
| mirror from him or if he wants to ask a mirroring service like
| planetmirror.com to mirror, that could be considered. In my own mind, as
| far as I'm concerned the archive is dead anyway so it doesn't really
matter
| to me what happens.
