[Blindapple] echo gp questions

I have an echo gp, the old one with the side wooden panels and has serial and parallel ports.  I use to use it to play infocom games.  Does anyone know what the switches should be set to allow use ona parallel port?  I know I use to use it that way, but I can't get it to respond to any data sent to this port.  I've tried a couple computers and a couple cables.  I don't recall changing anything,, but who knows.  It is odd if the port stopped working.  Any comments or help appreciated.
