<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;" class="">Hi to the list,<div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">while working and getting familiar with reaper, I found something very cool that I would like to share with you: Usually, live-recordings aren’t recorded with click. But for being able to work with bars and beats, you need to beat-map your project. Beat-mapping is the process of telling reaper the tempo of your recording, even if it isn’t completely exact, because musicians, playing live without click, don’t perform like machines :-). So here is an easy way to beat-map your project in 5 steps:</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">1. I created a custom-action that you can download here: <a href="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28202697/beatmap.ReaperKeyMap?dl=1" class="">https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28202697/beatmap.ReaperKeyMap?dl=1</a>. You can import that into your reaper-keymap and assign a shortcut. # worked for me with the latest OSARA on windows. But depending on your assignments, you can of course chose a different one. </div><div class="">2. Go to your file-menu and chose project-settings. There you will find to settings in the first tab, influencing the timebase of your project. Set both of them to „time“. </div><div class="">3. Navigate to the first beat of your project, where the music starts and press m to drop a project-marker. Press space to play your project and press m in the rhythm of your music whilst playing on the first beat of every following bar to drop project markers till the end of the song. </div><div class="">4. press 1 to access the first marker and use your go to next marker commands, to move the cursor to your markers. There you can check, if your markers are at the right positions, right at the beginning of bars. If some positions need to be corrected, delete the corresponding markers and use your tab and shift tab to transient commands to find downbeats, where you can drop new markers.</div><div class="">5. If you are satisfied with your work, the project-markers need to be converted to tempo-markers. Move your cursor to the first marker and press and hold the shortcut, assigned to the beat-map custom-action for several seconds. This action sets a time-selection-start at the current position, goes to the next marker, sets a time-selection end there, performs the „create measure from time-selection, detecting tempo action“ and finally moves to the next marker to be repeated till the end of the song. </div><div class="">I think, this method is quite fast and easy.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Enjoy and sorry for my mistakes in english.
