tracks noncontiguously?

The way to think of it is that shift+arows is multi selection.
By default, it's contiguous. Once you press shift+space, it's non-contiguous.
So, to select tracks 1 and 3:
1. Move to track 1. When you move to a track
normally, it's always selected.
2. Press shift+space to switch to
non-contiguous. Now shift+arrows are non-contiguous.
3. Press
shift+downArrow to move to track 2. Because it's non-contiguous, it'll move
there without selecting it.
4. Press shift+downArrow to move to track 3.
It's unselected, same as step 3.
5. Now shift+space to
select.
Done.

I know about shift up, and shift down arrow to
select tracks contiguously if they're right there together, but how do you
do this if you need to select noncontiguously? Say I have 3 tracks,
and I need to select 1, and 3. How would I do that? I see the
shift+Space action to enable noncontiguous selection, but once I'm sitting
on track 1, and I hit shift+space, I then hear noncontiguous. Then,
how do I go down to track 3 and select it as well, without unselecting track
1? Again, please give instructions for Windows users with Osara, not
with OSX.
