Hey Kev, you are still pretty young, and full of
energy, when you get older, you may decide to make a stand someplace and build
something.

But I dig it, there's something to be said for
making the best out of what you have, unfortunetly,

I ran in to so many hurtles banging my head against
the wall, I'd get that perfect guitar take only to have a big truck come by and
ruin my recording.

So it's not so much about competing, rather than
just having adequate tools to do the job right, and I've found that the rooms,
being quiet and reasonably well done for acoustics is like a bottom
line.

YOu are still primarily more in to performing and
recording than the engineering side of things, as you have
expressed,

my move toward recording other people more
instead of performing has largely been dictated by my health, but

even so, if I were still gigging,

I'd be driven nuts by trying to record in a
apartment or where ever.

Doing midi, or mixing and such wouldn't be so bad,
I don't care about premium pres and or any of the my daw is better than your daw
or gear kind of thing,

either, because nobody can hear that stuff up to a
point anyway, never had anyone come to me and say, hey that sucks, that was
recorded with reaper, or sonar, not protools, or I can hear those mackie pres in
there, they suck,

you should have used avilon blah blah
blah,

but I have gotten comments about my recording
space, modest as it is.

The bottom line is it attracts
business.

And makes my job so much easier.

I should have done this when I was your
age,

but I was too busy trying to be a rock star
'grin',

well, you know what I mean,

so much energy and performing seemed like it could
go on forever.

But you may be lucky and experience good health way
up in years,

and never have to change what your
doing.

Anyway, what your doing right now is most
excellent,

I had the feeling you were going to do world class
stuff when I heard you back when you were a teenager.

ON good days, sometimes I can still sing like
that,

or get in that space in my own way if you know what
I mean, but these days I'm mostly doing it vicariously from encouraging my folks
I record with,

and giving them the experience of my years of doing
this stuff.

So it's all good.

You just never know what life is going to hand
you,

no I won't quote that old tired Forest Gumph line
ha ha.

Keep doing what you do best Kev, we all love
it.

When I was younger, I had a dream of having a house modified
for studio use.

Well, as they say, life is what happens when you're
making plans. Now,
I've resolved myself to be completely mobile: all the
time. My studio is
in my bedroom, living room, on my patio, a coffee shop,
in a car going
down the road, anywhere I am.

My creativity is
spurred by the weird places I record. I prefer to
record drums in real,
untreated spaces. The drums for my first album
were recorded in a bedroom,
and this current project, a dining room with
extremely high
ceilings.

I've just come to the conclusion that I don't want to be
judged on
space, gear, what daw I use, etc. I want to be hired on taste. I
farm
out some stuff to other studios, and do other things right here in
house, or in car, or in wherever. It's how I roll anymore.

I just
have lost the desire to compete with anyone else in this space.
The guy
with the 10 Universal audio preamps is gonna win anyway, so why
not bring
something unique to the table.

Kevin, a bedroom studio guy after all
these years.

_______________________________________________
RWP
