Hello Crystal,
Yep, I feel your pain. It's not
like sound forge, for sure.
But, here is one thing that does
work.

Position your cursor a little way ahead of the point where you
want your
selection to end.
Start playback, and strike control+space as
close as possible to the point
where the selection should end. Be
sure to use control+space, not just
space by itself.Playback will
pause.
Press alt+shift+rightBracket to mark the end of the
selection.
Now, use page up, or whatever means to back up to a point just
prior to
where you want the selection to start.
Start playback again,
and strike control+space to pause at the desired start
point.
Playback will pause.
Pressalt+shift+LeftBrack to mark the start
point. Now you have a time
selection established.
Pressing space
bar will now just play the selection.
And, there are keys, that I can't
recall justn ow, for nudging the left and
right ends of the selection, in
case you didn't get them just right.
HTH
Sure, you're
welcome.

----- Original Message -----
From: "Crystal

area of a track

> It has been a constant issue of mine that I
cannot move around on a
> vocal track on Reaper as I please, to the
point where I just export
> and use another mixer to do so and record on
Reaper. But I really
> would like to use Reaper fully cuz it
really does sound like a great
> program, so my question is...is there
anyway to listen to a section
> you've selected on a track?
Whenever I hit Control+left arrow or
> right arrow it says a percentage
is selected, but when I go to listen
> it starts the track from the
beginning and that doesn't really help me
> when I am trying to edit a
certain section of a track...is there
> anyway to listen to a track
while you're editing, and fast
> forward/rewind through it while
selecting? or is that really just
> guess work. I have the
hardest time editing with Reaper sadly.
>
> So I guess this is two
questions: Can you playback the track and
> select at the same
time, and can you play a section you've selected by
>
itself?
>
> Thanks,
> Crystal
>
>
