My bad, alt+shift+S splits items at the time selection.<br>

Or, you could simply set your time selections on a track, press
control+shift+S, I believe, to split the track into items by time
selection, set a marker at the start of the time selection, delete
the item containing your time selection, select all other items
after that one and cut and paste them to the marker position.<br>

entire item rather than this small section of it which the

If I tinker with the order of the workflow and select the item
first, <br>
then make my time selection, I just get told "can't delete". <br>
<br>
Any pointers will be hugely appreciated, got a hard night's
reaping ahead. <br>
