Sounds like you have the set up right, but on play back you will only hear the unaffected audio of track one if you unless you turn input monitoring on for track two. If you and arm  track 2. If you only want to hear the affected signal you also will want uncheck the sent to parent channel option in track 1’s I/O dialog.
