[Rwp] Can somenone explain me how does i/o routing work?

Hi,

I'd like to understand how i/o routing works.

I pressed i on selected track, and I tried to select hardware output, 
for example.

I have focus rite 18i8 and I can see 16 items in hardware output combobox.

So I moved on first item, but it is selected for 1 second and then focus 
returns on add hardware output.

So, volume of my mic is correctly set and I can record without set gain 
of mic to maximum.

Ok, someone can help me to understand how to use it?
